Welcome

Friends of AskHer! Sign up to our email newsletter and you will be informed on the latest updates and upcoming events. The Premier’s Council for Women is currently undertaking a new project on women and work, and is asking women to complete its Conversation with NSW women about paid work survey. The survey will ask some basic questions about participants' views and experiences of paid work. The survey can be completed online and will only take 15 - 20 minutes.
The survey is anonymous but the Council would like to ask a few questions to make the information more meaningful.
Please visit the Premier and Cabinet's website to complete the survey online.
End mother to child transmission of HIV
In the last century, a great deal has changed for many women, however, for those in developing countries change has not been so swift - an estimated 70% of people living in poverty are female and unbelievably every minute a woman dies in childbirth.
But we can change this. Our first step is something that sounds remarkable, but according to health experts is possible: ending mother to child transmission of HIV. The group that can make this happen is The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria - who will be meeting with their key donors next week. Take action and encourage Global Fund Director Michel Kazatchkine and donors to support efforts to end mother to child transmission of HIV as a priority intervention to stop the spread of the disease. Sign the petition and also ask an important woman in your life to join you. This year is going to offer us the best possible chance to make a difference and we need as many people as possible to help- http://one.org/women/mothertochild/
Engineers Australia, the country's leading engineering body, is investing over $2.5 million in a new public awareness initiative which launches today to assist in curbing the skills tide.
The initiative, called Make it so, aims to shift Australians' perceptions and increase understanding of the engineering profession, whilst inspiring more Australians to consider careers in engineering.
A core component of the new initiative is a world first competition calling on everyday Australians to submit ideas via a dedicated website with one lucky person having their idea ‘made so' by an engineering team.
Askher.com.au speaks to Karla Mullins, project manager for one of Melbourne's largest water projects, Melbourne WatersaT Desalination Integration Project. The project is critical in providing desalinated water to Melbourne residents, about how she is finding working as an engineer and her thoughts on the current Engineers Australia ‘Make it so’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of what it is that engineers actually do - go to www.askher.com.au/Blogs.
People are encouraged to visit www.makeitso.org.au to submit, share and champion their ideas.
The Make it so competition will run for 12 weeks, until 15 May.
