Blog » The Energy to Recharge Your Batteries

by Patty Everitt

Energy is essential in this sleep deprived, overstretched, high speed world.

Whether the problem is simply multi-tasking to the max, not enough sleep, or simply exhausted by the fast pass of today’s life. To get the most out of your life and meet the demands put on you, you can’t afford to feel tired, run down and have your energy depleted.

So how do you recharge your batteries?

Implement at least one of these easy strategies and notice how your energy level is boosted.

  1. Pump it with attitude. When you start your day saying “I’m tired, I don’t get enough sleep”, you know how your day will go. Instead, say “I slept deeply and peacefully. I feel fully rested and ready to go!” Than look for something in your day that’s enjoyable. Treat it like a game! Than when you find it, and you will, take the time to acknowledge it – even if it’s only a 5 minute break! Than look for the next lot of enjoyment.
  2. Pull up the shades. Sunlight is a powerful natural signal that can shift your circadian rhythms from drowsy to alert, whether you're sleep-deprived or not.
  3. Airocise. Many of us live a ‘sedimentary life style’, so I suggested you go outside and breath - deeply, slowly, for 10 minutes - do it while you wait for the bus, in the park at lunch time, anytime. You’ll be surprised by the effect!
  4. Exercise is an energy creator.  Move your body. Take a walk, stretch, put on some music and dance. It feels good, because when we exercise there is a release of endorphins – a feel good, energy enhancing chemicals.
  5. Sip water throughout the day. If you’re dehydrated, you can feel blah, tired, have headaches and function less effectively.
  6. Adopt a smarter caffeine strategy. Tempting though it is, skip the cappuccino, long black, double shot latte to start your day. Yes caffeine block adenosine, a sleep inducing brain chemical that accumulates throughout the day. However, if you drink all you coffee first thing in the morning, the boost will ware off just when you need it most.

If you must have it – the best way to prevent the dreaded mid-afternoon slump is to sip your coffee – having a small amount each hour from mid morning until early afternoon. Do stop by than, or it may interfere with your ability to fall asleep that night.

Implement one of these strategies today, to boost you energy and make the most of your day!
